The West Coast Marine Tourism Collaboration was set up in Autumn 2017 following a marine tourism learning journey to Sweden. This had key learnings on collaboration across waterbodies and the application of hospitality principles to marine tourism activity. With funding support from HIE, eighteen DMOs across the west coast came together as the West Coast Marine Tourism Collaboration to scope out what the marine tourism offer actually is. This involved asset mapping, business surveys and workshops and concluded in December 2018 with 300 hub locations identified where people can get on and off the water, and an inventory of the services and experiences available at each location.
The scale of opportunity to grow and develop the West Coast as a marine tourism destination is massive. A Summit took place in Oban in January 2019 which scoped out a number of project ideas to develop for 2020 Scotland’s Year of Coasts and Waters. These are now being developed and by subscribing to this mail list we will keep you up to date on activity as it progresses and specific opportunities as they become available. This is currently being managed BY AITC Ltd on behalf of the WCMTC.
